A 6-year-old boy has died after suffering catastrophic injuries due to large driftwood log falling on him while he was playing at a Bellingham beach, his family confirmed. The heartbreaking accident has prompted an outpouring of community support.

The child, identified by his family as Killian, was playing near a makeshift driftwood structure when a heavy log suddenly gave way, striking him in the back of the head and trapping him beneath it.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene and transported the boy to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he remained in critical condition for several days before succumbing to his injuries on Sunday, according to his family.

Killian’s parents said the impact caused multiple skull fractures and severe trauma to the back of his brain. Doctors closely monitored his condition, waiting for swelling to subside so they could better assess the full extent of his injuries.

Describing the ordeal as every parent’s worst nightmare, the family said the tragedy was a heartbreaking accident with no one to blame.
“It was just a terrible freak accident,” his mother said.

Killian’s 10-year-old sister witnessed the incident and is also coping with the emotional trauma, family members said.

In the wake of the tragedy, friends launched a GoFundMe campaign to help the family with medical and related expenses, as community members continue to offer financial and emotional support during an unimaginable loss.
