PORT ANGELES, Wash. — A small plane crash in Olympic National Park on Tuesday evening has left one person dead and two others injured, according to the National Park Service (NPS).

Rangers were alerted to the incident shortly before 7 p.m. in the Quinault area, a remote and heavily forested region of the park. The crash site was located on a steep slope north of the Irely Lake Trailhead.

In coordination with Naval Air Station Whidbey Island Search and Rescue, NPS rangers responded to the scene and helped recover the victims.

All three occupants of the aircraft were transported to a Level 1 Trauma Center. A spokesperson for Harborview Medical Center in Seattle confirmed on Wednesday that the two survivors are in satisfactory condition.

The aircraft was identified as a Murphy SR3500 Moose, according to the NPS.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
