A man was shot in the chest during an armed robbery Tuesday afternoon at an apartment building in Seattle’s Licton Springs neighborhood, according to police.
Seattle officers responded to reports of gunfire just before 3 p.m. near Aurora Avenue North and North 88th Street. They found an adult male with a gunshot wound who was treated by medics and transported to a hospital. His condition has not been released.
The shooting occurred inside John Fox Place Apartments, an affordable housing complex located just off Aurora Avenue. Residents reported hearing two gunshots followed by shouting and commotion on the building’s third floor.
“This is a place where kids live,” said resident Kelsey Gorder, who heard the gunfire and screaming. “But it’s on 85th and Aurora. You can’t expect anything less, unfortunately.”
Witnesses observed police detaining a man at the scene, though officers have not confirmed whether he is connected to the shooting. Perry Debusk, a nearby resident, said he “saw them searching a guy and putting him in the back of a car.”
The incident has amplified ongoing safety concerns among residents of the affordable housing complex. Parents living at John Fox Place expressed frustration about crime and security issues affecting their families.
“We just want better for our kids,” said Daniel McCraw, a father and tenant. Another parent, Omar Dakhil, added, “We’re doing our best, but it’s getting harder with everything going on.”
Residents cite frequent police and ambulance activity in the area, pointing to persistent issues with crime and homelessness near the Aurora Avenue corridor. Several called for increased attention to safety both inside and outside the housing complex.
Police have not announced any arrests in connection with the armed robbery and shooting. The investigation continues as officers work to identify suspects and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
