A 20-year-old inmate who fled custody at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Tuesday night has been apprehended, the Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC) confirmed.

Officials identified the man as John Nino, who was located in Tacoma around 4 p.m. Wednesday. According to the DOC, investigators spotted Nino riding in a vehicle in King County, leading to his capture.

Authorities explained that the escape occurred while Nino was being transferred into Washington’s corrections system following his arrest in New Mexico for a parole violation. He had been previously convicted of second-degree robbery.

An airport spokesperson said the incident took place on the fourth floor of the parking garage. Nino managed to break away from two DOC officers, run toward the light rail station, cross the pedestrian bridge, and head in the direction of Highway 99.

The DOC stated that Nino was in the process of moving from out-of-state custody when he made his brief getaway, but his time on the run ended less than 24 hours later.
