A 58-year-old woman died Wednesday morning after she was found unresponsive in her cell at the Snohomish County Jail, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Corrections staff discovered the woman around 7:25 a.m. during routine checks in the jail’s medical housing unit. A medical emergency was immediately declared and lifesaving measures were administered, but efforts to resuscitate her were unsuccessful.
The woman had been booked into the facility four days earlier by the Everett Police Department on charges of loitering, possession of a controlled substance and a Stay Out of Drug Area violation.
The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit has opened a death investigation. Separately, an unexpected fatality review will be conducted, which is a standard clinical assessment carried out independently of any criminal inquiry.
The woman’s identity, along with the cause and manner of her death, will be determined by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office.
