An Auburn Police Department officer arrested last month on allegations of immoral communication with a minor has been terminated, the department confirmed, following an internal investigation that found sufficient evidence of off-duty misconduct to support the dismissal.

The officer was fired effective 28 May. His termination came after detectives arrested him on 15 May as part of an online child sex abuse operation. Investigators first made contact with the suspect on 13 May and developed probable cause for his arrest within two days. The officer has not yet been formally charged.

Auburn Police Chief Mark Caillier issued a statement at the time of the arrest making clear the department’s position. “The allegations in this case are deeply troubling and do not reflect the values, professionalism, or integrity of the Auburn Police Department,” Caillier said. “Our duty as officers is to ensure the safety and well-being of the public, especially children. This officer has broken that trust, and this incident will be handled as promptly as possible, while still ensuring that due process is followed.”

The department said the internal investigation found sufficient evidence related to the officer’s off-duty conduct to support the termination decision.
