Sound Transit’s 1 Line experienced delays Tuesday evening after a vehicle was found on the tracks near Mount Baker Station in South Seattle, forcing trains to operate at reduced speeds and splitting service across the line.
Crews responded to the incident while trains moved cautiously through the affected area, causing delays in both directions. The disruption prompted Sound Transit to run limited service, with trains operating between Lynnwood City Center and Stadium stations in one segment, and between Federal Way Downtown and Othello stations in another.
How the vehicle reached the tracks remains unclear. Mount Baker Station sits approximately 35 feet above ground, making the presence of a car on the guideway an unusual and puzzling development. The vehicle appears to have travelled along the elevated guideway before coming to a stop near the station platform. Investigators were working to determine how it accessed the restricted infrastructure.
No injuries were immediately reported. The cause of the incident is under investigation.
