A man in his thirties was hospitalised Friday night after being shot by law enforcement in Puyallup, following a domestic violence call that escalated rapidly when the man charged at responding officers wielding a metal baton.
Police were called just before 7:30 p.m. on 5 June after a woman reported that her brother was attempting to kill her. When officers arrived at the scene near Aylen Junior High School in the area of 4th Avenue and 15th Street Northwest, the situation deteriorated. According to Puyallup Police Captain Kevin Gill, the man charged at officers with a metal baton, prompting them to open fire.
The man was transported to a nearby hospital. His condition was not known at the time of reporting. The shooting is under investigation by a third-party state law enforcement agency, as is standard protocol for officer-involved shooting incidents in Washington state.
