It has been confirmed by Miami-Dade County officials that at least five people were killed and five others injured on Sunday afternoon when an Amazon Prime Air Cargo flight overran a runway at Miami International Airport and crashed into nearby traffic during a severe thunderstorm.

Multiple vehicles collided with the jet, resulting in several cars being crushed and trapping drivers inside before coming to a stop near an Amazon distribution center and catching fire.

Nearly 200 firefighters were deployed by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to combat the intense flames, rescue trapped motorists from their vehicles, and assist two pilots who were stuck in the jet. Five people died at the scene, while the five other victims were hospitalized. Three of those five are in critical condition.

Federal investigators from the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board have begun investigating the roles of the heavy rain, hydroplaning, and aircraft systems in the crash.
