A frightening incident unfolded in Seattle’s First Hill neighborhood early Sunday morning, May 5, 2024, when an armed stranger crashed a rooftop party at the upscale Ovation Apartments, stole alcohol, and reportedly threatened guests with a firearm before gunfire erupted. According to Seattle police and multiple eyewitness accounts, the unauthorized individual was not invited to the private event, which had drawn approximately 200 attendees. The suspect’s arrival went unnoticed at first, but the situation quickly escalated into chaos as the intruder allegedly began harassing partygoers and helping himself to alcohol.

Shortly after 6 a.m., the Seattle Police Department received multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire and disturbances at the apartment complex located on the 1100 block of 8th Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 22-year-old man inside an elevator suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency responders provided immediate aid at the scene before transporting the victim to Harborview Medical Center, where he remained in serious condition. Authorities stated that the victim did not appear to have been involved in a confrontation and told investigators he did not know who shot him.

Seattle police confirmed that several shell casings were recovered from the rooftop area, and multiple guests reported hearing gunshots and seeing people fleeing in panic. Despite the presence of witnesses, no suspect has been identified or arrested as of this writing. Detectives continue to investigate the shooting, reviewing surveillance footage from the apartment complex and interviewing attendees in hopes of identifying the suspect.

Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with video footage or firsthand information about the party or shooting to contact the Seattle Police Department’s violent crimes unit. This incident has raised concerns about security at private events in large residential buildings, especially those with rooftop amenities frequently used for social gatherings.

The Ovation Apartments, known for their panoramic city views and modern amenities, had no reported history of violent disturbances prior to this event. However, residents and property managers have expressed alarm over the breach in safety and are reportedly reviewing access protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future.

This shooting adds to a growing concern about gun violence and public safety in urban Seattle, particularly in and around residential high-rises. As investigations continue, community members and city officials alike are calling for increased preventive measures and vigilance to ensure such a shocking and dangerous event does not happen again.
