Bellevue police arrested a 17-year-old suspect in connection with the armed kidnapping and robbery of another teenager during an elaborate scheme that ended with the victim being abandoned in a rural area.

The incident occurred on May 22 when the suspect allegedly lured the victim, also 17, to a Bellevue park under false pretenses. Upon arrival, the victim was confronted by the masked suspect wielding a firearm, according to police reports.

The armed teenager forced the victim into the backseat of his own vehicle and drove to multiple locations whilst attempting to withdraw money using the victim’s credit cards. The suspect’s plan involved using the victim’s financial accounts to obtain cash through various ATM transactions.

The ordeal ended when the suspect abandoned the victim in a remote area of North Bend. The teenager sought help at a nearby residence where a Good Samaritan assisted him in contacting the King County Sheriff’s Office to report the crimes.

Bellevue Police Department joined the investigation immediately upon notification and launched a comprehensive inquiry into the incident. The case required coordination between multiple law enforcement agencies due to the geographic scope of the crimes.

After a three-month investigation, officers executed a search warrant on August 20 at a residence in the 18600 block of Northeast 55th Way in Redmond. The search yielded evidence linking the 17-year-old suspect to the May 22 crimes, according to police.

The suspect was taken into custody for investigation of kidnapping, armed robbery, and related charges. The case highlights the sophisticated nature of some juvenile crimes involving financial exploitation and violent threats.

The incident demonstrates how criminals may use social connections or deception to lure victims into vulnerable situations. The victim’s survival and ability to seek help proved crucial to the eventual identification and arrest of the suspect.

Police have not disclosed the relationship between the victim and suspect or the specific method used to initially contact the victim. The case remains under investigation as prosecutors review potential charges.

The three-month gap between the incident and arrest suggests the complexity of the investigation and the thoroughness required to build a strong case against the juvenile suspect. Evidence gathered during the search warrant execution provided the final pieces needed to connect the teenager to the crimes.
