Bellevue’s free electric on-demand shuttle service BellHop has reached 250,000 passenger rides since launching in 2023, a milestone that reflects the growing appetite for flexible, car-free transportation options in a city rapidly evolving into a walkable urban centre.

To mark the occasion, BellHop surprised its 250,000th passenger with a gift tote filled with snacks, Bellevue merchandise, and locally sourced goods. The gesture was a small reflection of what drivers and riders say has become a genuinely community-rooted service. “BellHop has become part of people’s routines,” said BellHop driver Brandie. “We have regular riders who I’ve gotten to know over time, and there’s a really welcoming energy on board. It feels personal and community-driven.”

Launched in 2023, BellHop operates as a fully electric, free-to-ride shuttle connecting residents, workers, and visitors across downtown Bellevue and surrounding neighbourhoods. The service was designed to reduce short car trips, ease parking pressure in the city centre, and provide an accessible alternative to driving for everyday errands, dining, shopping, and commuting. It runs on demand, meaning riders are not tied to fixed stops or schedules in the way traditional transit requires.

Brad Jones, Executive Director of Visit Bellevue, said the milestone speaks to how thoroughly the community has embraced the concept. “Over the past two years, BellHop has helped riders get to restaurants, shopping destinations, hotels, offices, parks, and community events while providing an accessible and environmentally friendly way to move around Bellevue,” Jones said. “This milestone reflects how much the Bellevue community has embraced BellHop.”

The 250,000-ride figure also arrives at a significant moment for Bellevue’s broader transportation picture. With paid street parking set to be introduced in key neighbourhoods later this year and the city’s downtown core drawing more foot traffic from tech employers, luxury retail, and residential development, demand for alternatives to private car trips is likely to grow. BellHop revenue generated by Bellevue’s new curb pricing programme is also expected to partially fund the service’s future expansion.
