The popular country music legend Dolly Parton has just been announced dead at 80. Parton is said to have died on Tuesday in Nashville as announced by her family. Her nephew Bryan Seaver, who served as her head of security for more than two decades announced her death in a recently posted video statement. There was no cause of death declared.

Parton has had a career spanning six decades and became one of the most recognizable figures in American music, writing thousands of songs, some of which is the most popular classics “Jolene”, “9 to 5’ and “I Will Always Love You.”

She had spoken publicly about her health in recent months and canceled a Las Vegas show she had scheduled for earlier this year.

Beyond music, she was celebrated for her philanthropy, particularly the Imagination Library, which has disributed hundreds of millions of books to children. Her family has asked that donations go there in lieu of flowers.

The family has reported that a private service has been planned ahead.
