A judicial authority has officially denied bail for a fifteen-year-old boy who was taken into custody following a chaotic July 26 gunfire incident at the high-profile Bite of Seattle festival. He has been charged with first-degree assault with a firearm enhancement and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. The violent altercation tragically resulted in three fatalities and left four additional bystanders suffering from various physical injuries. In defense of his actions, the minor has raised a formal legal claim asserting self-defense, arguing that he brought out his weapon and fired for the sole reason of protecting himself from two opposing individuals who had initially targeted him with gunfire.

Detailing the exact sequence of events, public defender Tran Hong submitted statement evidence on behalf of the teenage client. The defense team asserted that the youth was positioned in close proximity to nineteen-year-old Junior Cee Niko-Semo at the precise moment the dangerous violent exchange started.

Upon hearing the initial discharge of firearms, the eyewitnesses allegedly observed the fifteen-year-old retrieve a hidden gun directly from a small carrying bag or pouch, subsequently discharging retaliatory rounds back towards the initial source of gunfire. Based on this specific account, attorney Hong contended that the young suspect’s actions were strictly an act of personal protection.

Conversely, representatives from the prosecution strongly argued against granting temporary release, asking the judge to keep the minor incarcerated. During the proceedings, official records established that the precise bullets discharged by the teenager’s weapon did not directly cause any of the festival’s casualties or injuries. Despite this key factual finding, the presiding judge ultimately rejected the defense counsel’s request to secure pre-trial bail conditions, as he was accused of firing a gun into a crowd of people and remains a threat to public safety. As a direct outcome of the ruling, the juvenile will remain confined in secure detention as he awaits his formal court hearing scheduled for November.

So far, the fifteen-year-old is the only person who has been arrested following the Bite of Seattle mass shooting.
