A tragic maritime incident unfolded in Possession Sound near Howarth Park in Everett, Washington, resulting in three individuals presumed dead and one person rescued after a 26-foot cuddy cabin boat sank during a recreational outing. The vessel, reportedly engaged in shrimping or fishing, capsized under circumstances that remain under investigation. The U.S. Coast Guard received a distress call at approximately 1:10 p.m., prompting an immediate and coordinated emergency response.

The sole survivor of the boating accident, a 50-year-old man, was rescued by a nearby good Samaritan who pulled him from the frigid waters. According to authorities, the rescued individual did not sustain any injuries and was able to provide initial information about the incident. Despite his rescue, the fate of the three remaining passengers—a woman in her 40s, a man in his 60s, and a man in his 20s—remains grim. After extensive efforts by multiple agencies, including the U.S. Coast Guard, Everett Fire Department, local police, and the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, the search operation was transitioned from a rescue to a recovery mission.

The search continued for several hours but was ultimately suspended by the Coast Guard at 10:45 p.m. on the same day. The decision was made after rescue teams scoured the area using helicopters, boats, and dive teams with no success in locating the missing individuals. Authorities stated that the weather conditions were relatively mild at the time of the incident, further deepening the mystery surrounding the boat’s sudden sinking.

This Everett boat sinking incident has raised significant concerns regarding boating safety in the Pacific Northwest, especially as the recreational season begins. Marine investigators are currently examining the wreckage and other evidence to determine what caused the vessel to sink. Early speculation suggests that equipment failure or sudden water ingress could be possible factors, but no official cause has been confirmed as of yet.

The Everett boating tragedy underscores the importance of safety preparedness on the water, including the use of life jackets, emergency communication devices, and adherence to boating regulations. Local authorities have urged boaters to review safety protocols before setting out, particularly in cold and unpredictable waters such as those in Possession Sound.

As the investigation continues, the Everett community mourns the presumed loss of three lives in what is being described as a heartbreaking and sudden tragedy on the water. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available. Anyone with knowledge about the boat or its occupants is encouraged to contact local authorities to aid the ongoing investigation.

This incident serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers that can arise even during routine recreational boating trips and highlights the critical role of timely emergency response and community vigilance.
