After nearly three years of redevelopment, Seattle’s iconic Pier 58 is set to make its official return this Friday as the newly redesigned Waterfront Park prepares to open to the public, just in time for the beloved Seafair Torchlight Parade.

Angela Brady, who leads Seattle’s Office of the Waterfront and Civic Projects, called the reopening a major milestone for the city. “This is one of the last major pieces of our Waterfront Park vision, and we’re thrilled to finally open it up for everyone to enjoy,” she said.

The reimagined space brings a mix of new and familiar features. A restored historic fountain has been returned to its original location on the pier, complemented by an open grassy lawn, shaded tables, and sweeping views of Elliott Bay that give visitors an uninterrupted look at Seattle’s waterfront beauty.

“It might seem simple, but just being able to see and connect with the water like this is something special,” Brady added.

One of the standout additions is a large, maritime-themed playground designed to spark imagination and adventure. The highlight is a jellyfish-inspired play structure, complete with a towering 25-foot climbing feature and an 18-foot slide that promises fun for kids and families alike.

Longtime Seattle resident Dwane Wright expressed his enthusiasm during a recent preview of the site. “The transformation along the waterfront has been incredible. This whole area looks amazing now,” he said.

The revitalization of Pier 58 is part of a larger effort to breathe new life into Seattle’s historic waterfront, which has seen years of planning, investment, and phased development. Warren Baker, a longtime worker along the shoreline, reflected on the changes.

“The difference is night and day. It used to feel rundown, but now it’s beautiful. I think people will forget about the inconvenience of construction once they see what’s been created here,” Baker shared.

The grand opening celebration for Waterfront Park takes place Friday, July 25, from 4 to 8 p.m., and is free for all to attend. Visitors will also get another look at the new park during Saturday’s Seafair Torchlight Parade, which begins at 7:30 p.m. and will pass by the site—offering a perfect opportunity to see the waterfront in full celebration mode.
