Three 18-year-old males have been arrested and charged in connection with a deadly shooting that took place in Tacoma, Washington, prompting renewed concern over the rise in youth violence in the region. The incident occurred on April 12, 2025, in the Salishan neighborhood, a residential area in East Tacoma known for a mix of single-family homes and community housing.

According to authorities, the violent encounter left two individuals with gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to a nearby hospital; while one survived the attack, the second—identified as a teenage boy—succumbed to his injuries four days later. The Tacoma Police Department launched an extensive investigation that led to the arrest of the three suspects: Antoinne Miles, Jayshawn Shepherd, and Joseph Morgan, all 18 years old.

Court documents reveal that Antoinne Miles is facing multiple serious charges, including first-degree murder, first-degree assault, and unlawful possession of a firearm. His bail has been set at $2 million. The other two suspects, Shepherd and Morgan, have been charged with murder and assault, with each of their bail amounts set at $1.5 million. All three individuals appeared in court on May 22, 2025, where they entered pleas of not guilty.

The fatal shooting in Tacoma has intensified ongoing discussions about the growing involvement of teenagers and young adults in violent crimes throughout the Puget Sound region. Local officials and community leaders have voiced deep concern over a troubling trend where suspects as young as 14 and 15 years old are increasingly being implicated in severe offenses, including shootings and armed robberies.

This rise in youth-related violence has sparked calls for comprehensive community intervention strategies and support systems aimed at at-risk youth. Law enforcement agencies are working alongside local organizations to develop programs focused on prevention, education, and conflict resolution in an effort to reduce gun violence and keep young individuals out of the criminal justice system.

The Tacoma Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward to assist in the ongoing legal proceedings and to bring closure to the victim’s family.

This high-profile case not only highlights the tragic consequences of youth gun violence but also serves as a sobering reminder of the need for collaborative efforts to ensure public safety and provide positive alternatives for vulnerable teens in communities across Washington state.
