One man died and another was critically injured in a Sunday afternoon shooting in Tacoma that prompted a homicide investigation by city police.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire and possible victims in the 4000 block of South Warner Street just after 3 p.m., discovering two adult male victims suffering from gunshot wounds upon arrival.

Fire personnel pronounced one victim dead at the scene, while emergency medical responders transported the second victim to a local hospital in critical condition. His current status has not been updated by authorities.

Tacoma Police Department detectives and Crime Scene Technicians have launched a homicide investigation into the circumstances surrounding the double shooting. The incident occurred in a residential area of South Tacoma during daylight hours.

Authorities have not released the identities of the victims or provided details about potential suspects in the case. Police also have not disclosed whether the shooting was targeted or random, or if any weapons were recovered from the scene.

The investigation remains active as detectives work to establish a timeline of events and identify potential witnesses who may have observed the shooting or suspicious activity in the area prior to the incident.

South Warner Street was temporarily closed to traffic as investigators processed the crime scene and collected evidence. The residential neighborhood has experienced periodic violence, though police have not indicated whether this shooting is connected to previous incidents.

Tacoma police are urging community members to come forward with any information that could assist the investigation. Authorities ask anyone with knowledge related to the case to contact 911.

The double shooting adds to Tacoma’s 2025 homicide statistics as the city continues efforts to reduce gun violence through community engagement and enhanced police presence in high-crime areas.

Crime Scene Technicians will continue processing physical evidence while detectives conduct interviews and follow investigative leads to identify those responsible for the shooting.
