Federal investigators have escalated efforts to identify the individual responsible for a recent explosion at a Tesla Supercharger station in Lacey, Washington — an act now officially classified as domestic terrorism.

The incident, which caused significant damage to electrical infrastructure at the site, is being investigated by both the FBI Seattle Field Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Law enforcement officials are urging the public to come forward with any information or footage that may aid in tracking down the perpetrator.

The blast, which occurred at a Tesla charging facility near South Sound Center, ripped panels from a power cabinet and damaged critical electrical switchgear. Investigators believe the explosion was a deliberate attempt to disrupt Tesla’s operations and infrastructure.

Forensic evidence from the site has been sent to a federal laboratory for further analysis. Officials are working to determine the precise cause of the fire and explosion, as well as the materials used in the attack. Though no suspects have been named, the investigation remains highly active and ongoing.

Authorities are particularly interested in locating footage from nearby areas, including the Target and Kohl’s parking lots and the Chehalis Western and Woodland Creek trails. One key lead is a gray or dark gray Tesla Model X — model year between 2016 and 2019 — that was reportedly seen near the site before the explosion. While the vehicle’s driver is not considered a suspect, investigators believe dashcam or onboard footage may hold critical information.

“This vehicle could be a silent witness to the moments leading up to the explosion,” said one official familiar with the case.

The FBI has urged anyone with potential evidence — especially photos or videos taken in the area during the hours before the blast — to submit tips by calling 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or visiting tips.fbi.gov. Local residents can also provide information directly to the Lacey Police Department at 360-459-4333.

As law enforcement continues to piece together the timeline of the incident, officials emphasize that public cooperation is essential to bringing the individual behind this act of domestic terrorism to justice.
