A tragic collision in Auburn left two people dead Wednesday afternoon after multiple vehicles were involved in a fiery crash, according to the King County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO).
Authorities said the accident occurred at about 3:30 p.m. near 13604 SE Auburn Black Diamond Road, a busy stretch often used by commuters. Witnesses reported hearing a loud impact, followed almost immediately by flames engulfing one of the vehicles.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene, but the fire made rescue efforts extremely challenging. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze, but both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
The KCSO confirmed that its Major Accident Response and Reconstruction Detectives are investigating the circumstances of the crash, including what may have caused the vehicles to collide. The King County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct autopsies to determine the official causes of death and will release the victims’ identities once families are notified.
Deputies have not yet disclosed whether speed, impairment, or road conditions played a role in the deadly incident.
