Foundations, a growing startup community based in Seattle, is expanding both its physical presence and its influence within the local tech ecosystem. Founded by Aviel Ginzburg, Foundations started as an experimental support network for early-stage startup founders. The community has quickly evolved into a dynamic network that now boasts 236 members, including 55 “founders-in-residence” who are currently participating in an intensive six-month accelerator program. The community’s reach extends beyond local entrepreneurs to include seasoned tech industry veterans, investors, and newcomers eager to immerse themselves in the startup world.

In response to the rapid growth of its community, Foundations is increasing its office space at its Capitol Hill location. The organization has added 5,000 square feet to its existing office, accommodating the increasing demand for collaborative workspaces. This expansion reflects a shift from Foundations’ original accelerator model toward a more flexible, member-driven environment where startups can grow and thrive at their own pace. The new space will serve as a co-working area where members can collaborate, share ideas, and build their companies. It’s an important development in Foundations’ mission to provide an innovative and supportive community for entrepreneurs at all stages of their journey.

Looking ahead, Foundations is also considering expanding to Bellevue, a city across Lake Washington from Seattle. Bellevue has increasingly become a key destination for tech companies and startups due to its growing talent pool and proximity to major tech hubs. This expansion would allow Foundations to further broaden its impact on the Seattle metropolitan area’s startup ecosystem and help foster the growth of the next wave of tech companies in the region.

What sets Foundations apart from other startup incubators and accelerators is its unique approach. Unlike many accelerators, Foundations does not require startups to give up equity or pay membership fees. This no-strings-attached approach has proven effective in helping startups at various stages of their development. Companies like MediScan, a health tech startup, have credited Foundations with being the catalyst that transformed their ideas into fully operational businesses. Similarly, EloraHQ, another member company, has described Foundations as a “phone-a-friend lifeline” during the chaotic journey of being a startup founder, illustrating the community’s role in offering both practical support and emotional encouragement to entrepreneurs navigating the complexities of building a business.

As Foundations continues to grow, its commitment to fostering innovation, collaboration, and entrepreneurship remains unwavering. The expansion of office space in Capitol Hill and the potential move to Bellevue are just a few examples of the organization’s ongoing success and dedication to creating a robust startup ecosystem. With a focus on providing flexible, supportive environments for startups and offering access to valuable mentorship and resources, Foundations is helping to shape the future of Seattle’s tech landscape and supporting the next generation of entrepreneurs.
