A 38-year-old Lynnwood woman was killed early Thursday via a collision involving a semi truck on southbound State Route 99, the Washington State Patrol said. Karen J. Kim was pronounced dead at the scene near Lincoln Way at about 4:37 a.m.

Troopers said Kim’s motorcycle merged onto southbound SR 99 from 31st Avenue West and struck the trailer of a semi traveling in the right lane. She was wearing a federally compliant helmet. No other injuries were reported, and the cause remains under investigation.

All southbound lanes closed at the SR 525 junction and reopened around 9:30 a.m., blocking traffic for nearly five hours. The State Patrol initially treated the crash as a hit and run, with spokesperson Kelsey Harding saying the semi left the scene and witnesses described a blue cab and white trailer. A later collision report identified an Everett man as the truck’s driver and recorded him as uninjured. The agency has not reconciled the two accounts.

Anyone who saw the collision or has dashcam video from SR 99 near SR 525 around 4:37 a.m. Thursday is asked to call troopers at 425-923-6244.
