A man is in custody after assaulting Seattle Department of Transportation workers along the Alaskan Way South bike trail late Sunday night in an attack that left a police officer injured and required multiple response teams before the suspect was taken into custody.
Officers were dispatched at approximately 11:30 p.m. to the 1500 block of Alaskan Way South following reports that a suspect was attacking DOT staff. Police said the man was throwing rocks at workers and striking them, and had threatened to kill one of them.
The SPD Alternate Response Team arrived and attempted to de-escalate the situation, but the man was described as very uncooperative. When patrol officers arrived on scene, the suspect emerged from a tent, ran toward an officer, and tackled him, causing an injury. The officer was transported to Harborview Medical Center for evaluation.
The man was eventually taken into custody and booked into the King County Jail on multiple counts of assault.
