Seattle police homicide detectives are investigating the death of a 67-year-old man who died following an early morning fight in Westlake Park on Thursday. A passerby called 911 around 6:45 a.m. after spotting two men fighting and hearing one of them screaming for help. While officers were on their way to the scene, the witness reported that one of the men had stopped moving.

Responding officers arrived at the park and found the 67-year-old victim without a pulse. Police initiated lifesaving measures until Seattle Fire Department medics arrived, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police quickly located the other individual involved, a 39-year old man, and took him into custody. Detectives from the Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Investigation detectives responded to process the scene and review the events leading up to the death. Investigators noted that a nearby camera connected to the city’s Real Time Crime Center captured footage of the incident, which will serve as key evidence in the inquiry.

Authorities are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the Seattle Police Department Violent Crimes Tip Line at (206) 233-5000. Addressing public safety concerns, the department stated that residents will see increased uniformed patrols, including car and bike units, across the West Precinct area, including downtown and Belltown.
