A 40-year-old man is believed to have been shot in the face in South Seattle Wednesday night, with police yet to identify a suspect, according to the Seattle Police Department.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting near South Winthrop Street and Cheasty Boulevard South in North Beacon Hill and found a man with significant head and face injuries from a suspected gunshot wound.

“This is a suspected shooting,” SPD Detective Eric Munoz said. “We do need those medical professionals to look at those injuries and determine exactly what happened.”

Seattle Fire Department personnel arrived, provided medical treatment, and transported the man to Harborview Medical Center. Patrol officers assessed the scene, took photographs, and recovered evidence indicative of a shooting.

No known suspect has been identified. Anyone with information is asked to call the SPD Violent Crimes Tip Line at 206-233-5000. Tips can be anonymous.

The shooting occurred in North Beacon Hill, a residential neighborhood south of downtown Seattle. The area near South Winthrop Street and Cheasty Boulevard South includes single-family homes and is adjacent to Cheasty Greenspace.

The need for medical professionals to confirm the gunshot wound indicates the injury pattern requires expert examination to definitively establish the cause, though evidence at the scene suggests a shooting occurred.

Harborview Medical Center serves as the region’s Level I trauma center, treating the most serious injuries including gunshot wounds to the head and face.
