Authorities have identified the man killed by Bellevue police during a SWAT standoff last week as 60-year-old Patrick Sathyanathan. The King County Medical Examiner’s Office released his name on Monday, confirming he died after being shot by an officer in the early hours of August 9.

Police say the incident began around 8:15 p.m. on August 7, when officers were called to the 15800 block of Northrup Way following reports of a man in crisis firing an airsoft rifle. The individual, later identified as Sathyanathan, allegedly prompted a large law enforcement response, including a SWAT team and a Bearcat armored vehicle.

Nearby residents were told to shelter in place, and some were evacuated for safety. After an hours-long standoff, Bellevue police reported that an officer fired at approximately 12:31 a.m. Friday.

No officers or bystanders were injured. Officials confirmed that Sathyanathan died as a result of the shooting. The King County Independent Force Investigation Team (KC-IFIT) is continuing its investigation into the incident.
