An afternoon violent incident in Pioneer Square left a man with severe injuries on Sunday, after which he fled the immediate area and boarded a nearby light rail train, law enforcement officials reported.

Emergency responders were initially alerted to the situation around 4:30 p.m. following reports of a male passenger on board a light rail train who was visibly bleeding from his abdomen. Upon making contact with an officer from the Seattle Police Department, the 30-year-old victim stated that he had been stabbed in the vicinity of a neighborhood bar in Pioneer Square. Following the attack, the injured individual fled on foot to a nearby transit station and got onto a northbound train, according to details provided by police authorities.

After emergency teams reached the scene, the man was removed from the train at Symphony Station and rushed to Harborview Medical Center. Seattle police confirmed that he was admitted to the hospital in serious condition due to the severity of his wounds. While medical personnel tended to the victim, investigating officers remained at the initial location of the assault to interview witnesses who observed the incident. As of now, police have not taken a suspect into custody, and the assailant remains at large.

The emergency response and medical evacuation also impacted public transportation in the area. Sound Transit noted that service along both the Line 1 and Line 2 was temporarily halted at Symphony Station for approximately 20 minutes while first responders treated the victim on site and prepared him for transport to the hospital.
