An adult son shot his father in their shared Parkland home Friday evening before barricading himself in a bedroom, prompting a SWAT and crisis negotiator response, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.

The call came in at 8:04 p.m. regarding a shooting at 421 142nd Street Court South. Deputies later confirmed the father had been shot by his adult son inside their home.

After the shooting, the son barricaded himself in a bedroom, prompting SWAT and crisis negotiator response. Negotiators successfully persuaded the man to surrender peacefully, and he is now in custody, PCSO said.

SWAT officers are breaking containment at the scene. No additional injuries were reported.

The incident represents another domestic violence case involving firearms in Pierce County, with the relationship between shooter and victim adding complexity to the investigation and potential criminal charges.

The father’s condition and extent of injuries were not immediately available. The son will likely face charges including assault or attempted murder depending on the severity of injuries and circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Crisis negotiators played a key role in peaceful resolution, preventing potential additional violence as SWAT teams established perimeter containment during the standoff.
