A 30-year-old man was stabbed multiple times with a butcher knife while sleeping outside Westwood Village shopping center early Tuesday morning, with the suspect remaining at large.

The victim told officers he was attacked while asleep around 12:40 a.m. in the shopping center area on Southwest Barton Street. He sustained lacerations to his hands, cheeks, and leg and was transported to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition.

Seattle police investigators collected evidence at the scene and determined the suspect fled toward Roxhill Park and south along the Longfellow Creek Legacy Trail. Officers conducted a search of the area using a police dog but were unable to locate the attacker.

Detectives with the Seattle Police Department’s Homicide and Assault Unit have taken over the investigation due to the serious nature of the assault and life-threatening injuries sustained by the victim.

Police are asking anyone with information about the stabbing to contact the SPD Violent Crimes Tip Line at 206-233-5000. The investigation remains active as detectives work to identify and locate the suspect who carried out the attack.
