One hour before Seattle Public Schools and Seattle Education Association convened to finalize a new contract agreement, Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson announced that the city’s Parks and Recreation department has been ordered to open four community centers to offer child care, in the event of a strike by teachers.

As both sides continue their negotiations, Wilson stated that SPS will offer meals to students. Additionally in the supposed event of a strike, Meadowbrook community center, Montlake Community Center, Rainier Community Center, and South Park Community Center, are open to offer child care services to any child in kindegarten through the sixth grade.

Additionally, families who are receiving assistance from the city’s child care assistance, will receive extra financial assistance to help cover the cost of full-day care, however, this only applies if the child care provider has the capacity to do so.
