A young girl reported missing in Arizona has been found safe at a large homeless encampment in Olympia after a multi-state investigation led by the US Marshals Service identified her as a possible victim of sex trafficking in Washington state.

The child was initially reported missing to Mesa Police in Arizona in May. On 18 June, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children notified investigators that she may have been trafficked and that she could be located in Washington. Working with the Washington State Department of Corrections, US Marshals located the girl on 25 June at the approximately 20-acre encampment known as the Jungle along Martin Way East in Olympia.

She was safely recovered and transferred to the care of the Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families and the Olympia Police Department, where victim services are being provided. Authorities have not released the child’s identity or age.

The investigation remains ongoing.
