The remains of a 39-year-old Chinese woman who disappeared from Klickitat County have been discovered in a storage locker in The Dalles, Oregon, more than a year after she went missing.
Meihong He, known as “Kiki,” had been staying in the small town of Glenwood before her disappearance. Her body was found after police received a tip about suspicious circumstances at the storage facility.
The discovery prompted a multi-agency law enforcement response after responding officers determined there was sufficient evidence to warrant expanded investigation. The Oregon State Police Crime Lab opened a storage box within the locker and found human remains inside.
“The remains were positively identified as those of Meihong, He, known as ‘Kiki,'” The Dalles Police Department stated. “She was 39 years old. She was a resident of the Mid-Columbia area and originally from China. Her next of kin have been informed of her death.”
Police have identified Richard Michael Robinson, a 59-year-old man from The Dalles, as a person of interest in the case. Robinson had also spent time in Klickitat County and was arrested on August 25 by the U.S. Marshals Service in Berthoud, Colorado.
Robinson was taken into custody on a warrant for failure to register as a sex offender and is currently held in Larimer County Jail pending extradition to Oregon. The arrest occurred as part of the ongoing investigation into He’s death.
The case highlights the challenges of investigating missing persons cases that cross state boundaries and involve transient individuals. He’s disappearance from the small rural community of Glenwood had left family and friends searching for answers for more than a year.
The investigation remains active as authorities work to determine the circumstances surrounding He’s death and any potential charges related to the case. The discovery brings closure to the missing person case whilst opening a new phase focused on determining what happened to He and who may be responsible.
