OpenAI has announced a major initiative to support U.S. federal government agencies by offering access to its premium ChatGPT Enterprise platform for just $1 per agency over the next year. The move, revealed on Wednesday, is part of a broader effort to integrate artificial intelligence into public service operations nationwide.

The program is being spearheaded by OpenAI for Government, a division introduced in June to deliver cutting-edge AI tools to federal employees across the country. As part of the offer, agencies will receive unlimited access to OpenAI’s frontier models via ChatGPT Enterprise. Additional features — including Deep Research and Advanced Voice Mode — will also be made available without restriction for a 60-day period.

The company noted in a blog post that one of the most impactful ways AI can benefit society is by improving government functions. According to OpenAI, artificial intelligence has the potential to simplify complex budgeting, enhance national security analysis, and streamline everyday administrative processes.

To support the rollout, Seattle-based consulting firm Slalom has been tapped to guide agencies through the AI integration process. With a strong track record in business and technology services, including artificial intelligence solutions, Slalom has worked with a wide range of clients such as Microsoft, eBay, REI, Hyatt, and Alaska Airlines.

Slalom will lead coaching sessions and hands-on workshops for federal employees, aimed at helping teams get the most out of ChatGPT. Their involvement includes creating detailed playbooks, offering training programs, and hosting innovation-focused events like hackathons.

Brian Turner, executive president at Slalom, emphasized that the company is committed to responsible tech deployment. He explained that Slalom is leveraging its decades of experience to help federal workers “innovate sustainably, scale efficiently, and love what they do.”

The collaboration underscores a growing recognition of AI’s role in transforming public sector efficiency and effectiveness, while also highlighting Seattle’s continued influence in the tech and innovation space.
