Pierce County, WA — Authorities are investigating a fatal stabbing that occurred early Wednesday morning at an apartment complex near Tacoma, involving a teenage suspect.

According to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to reports of a stabbing at approximately 1:45 a.m. at the Coventry Court Apartments, located in the 1000 block of 76th Street Court East in unincorporated Pierce County.

Upon arrival, deputies found a man critically injured from stab wounds. Investigators say the incident stemmed from a domestic altercation involving a 16-year-old boy, his mother, and her boyfriend. According to law enforcement, the teen intervened during an argument between the adults and stabbed the boyfriend.

The victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to his injuries, officials confirmed.

The teenage suspect was taken into custody at the scene and booked into Remann Hall Juvenile Detention Center. He is being held for investigation of second-degree murder.

Detectives and forensic investigators were on-site for several hours, collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses as part of the ongoing investigation.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of those involved. Additional details may be made public pending formal charges and court proceedings.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
