Seattle law enforcement officials are examining two distinct stabbing incidents that occurred over the weekend in the Lake City neighborhood, leaving two individuals wounded in separate attacks within hours of each other.
The initial assault took place Sunday afternoon in the vicinity of 13000 Lake City Way NE. Authorities received a 911 call reporting that a man had sustained stab wounds, though the caller declined to provide additional details, according to police records.
Emergency responders transported the victim to Harborview Medical Center for medical treatment. Seattle Police Department officials noted that both the injured party and the emergency caller were uncooperative with investigators. Witness accounts proved inconsistent, with descriptions varying to such an extent that they provided little investigative value.
Several hours after the first incident, police were dispatched to a second stabbing in the 11700 block of Lake City Way NE. A 29-year-old woman suffered injuries to her hand and was actively bleeding when first responders arrived.
Seattle Fire Department personnel transported the second victim to Harborview Medical Center. Law enforcement officials arrested a 41-year-old woman in connection with the assault and recovered two knives believed to have been used as weapons.
According to police, the second stabbing occurred within an encampment located along the Thornton Creek Trail.
The weekend violence has intensified concerns among Lake City residents, who are still reeling from last week’s fatal shooting that claimed two lives at a homeless encampment in Virgil Flaim Park, located just blocks from where the weekend stabbings occurred.
Tim Gaydos, a Lake City resident, described the current situation as critical. He expressed frustration over what he perceives as multiple violent incidents occurring within a compressed timeframe and a lack of adequate response from city authorities.
Gaydos specifically referenced the recent double homicide near a park where children were present, noting that despite assurances from officials that the situation had been addressed, the encampment residents simply relocated to another park nearby while the suspect remains at large.
Area residents report that new encampments have emerged within blocks of Flaim Park following its clearance. In response to the ongoing concerns, neighbors are working to reestablish the Lake City Community Council to coordinate community advocacy efforts aimed at pushing city officials to develop solutions for the encampment situation.
City officials confirmed Friday that outreach workers from Seattle’s Unified Care Team have been deployed to engage with the homeless population in the affected area.
Richard Ridout, who operates a business in Lake City, emphasized the need for accountability in addressing the ongoing public safety concerns in the neighborhood.
The investigations into both stabbing incidents remain active as authorities work to gather additional information about the circumstances surrounding the attacks.
