Seattle police are investigating a violent stabbing that occurred Sunday afternoon inside a Safeway in Rainier Valley, leaving one man with life-threatening injuries.

Officers were called to the grocery store in the 3800 block of Rainier Avenue South shortly after 4 p.m. and found a man suffering from multiple stab wounds. Seattle Fire Department medics provided emergency treatment at the scene before transporting the victim to Harborview Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition.

The suspect, a 64-year-old man, was arrested nearby within minutes of the attack. Police also recovered the knife believed to have been used.

According to investigators, surveillance footage showed the suspect approaching the victim and stabbing him without provocation. The motive remains unclear.

The case is now being handled by detectives from the Seattle Police Department’s Homicide and Assault Unit. Authorities have not released the names of either the suspect or the victim.
