Authorities in Renton, Washington, are investigating a chilling triple homicide that occurred on Saturday evening, leaving three female victims dead, including a child. The suspected shooter—a 46-year-old man—was apprehended on Sunday following an intensive overnight manhunt.

According to the Renton Police Department (RPD), officers responded to reports of gunfire shortly after 7:30 p.m. on July 19 in the area of Kirkland Avenue NE near 18th Street. Upon arrival, police discovered a gruesome crime scene inside a home where three individuals—a 46-year-old woman, a 28-year-old woman, and a 9-year-old girl—had been fatally shot.

Two other people present during the attack managed to escape and provided crucial information that helped lead investigators to the suspect. One of the survivors reportedly hid in nearby bushes and was able to alert a neighbor who was gardening, prompting a swift call to emergency services.

“It was a horrific scene that they had to witness and flee from,” said Meeghan Black, Communications Manager for the Renton Police Department. “Not only did they witness unimaginable violence, but they also lost friends. They were guests in that home. Our entire community is mourning with them.”

Investigators believe the shooting was a targeted act of domestic violence. The suspect is said to have been in a romantic relationship with the adult female victim of the same age. Authorities confirmed he was also acquainted with the two younger victims, though the nature of those relationships has not yet been made public.

“This was not a random act,” Black emphasized, adding that there is no ongoing threat to the broader community.

Detectives worked through the night, securing and executing multiple search warrants, analyzing electronic devices, and interviewing witnesses and family members to piece together the events that led to the tragedy.

“This was exceptional police work,” Black said. “You see crimes solved overnight in television shows—rarely does it happen that way in real life. But this team worked tirelessly and brought swift resolution.”

The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation as authorities continue to process evidence and seek justice for the victims.
