A grieving Seattle family has raised the reward for information leading to the arrest of a hit-and-run suspect who fatally struck a pedestrian in Columbia City, bringing the total to $21,000.
Seattle Police say the incident occurred on the evening of April 18, when a motorcyclist struck two pedestrians in a marked crosswalk at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Way South and South Alaska Street, near the Columbia City light rail station. The crash happened at approximately 8:20 p.m.
The victims were later identified as Min Huang and her husband. Huang, who sustained critical injuries, died two days later on April 20. Her husband survived but is recovering from a spinal fracture and serious knee injuries.
Lizzy Chen, the couple’s daughter, recalled the heart-wrenching phone call from police and later reviewed traffic camera footage that captured the moments before the tragic impact.
“She was full of love, cherished the simple things in life, and worked tirelessly to build a better future for our family,” Chen told KOMO News. “Justice for us means holding the driver accountable and making sure no other family suffers this kind of loss.”
The family is offering a $20,000 reward, with Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound contributing an additional $1,000 for tips that lead to an arrest and charges.
Seattle police have released surveillance images showing what is believed to be the suspect’s vehicle — a red Honda Goldwing GL1500 motorcycle. The images were captured by a nearby Metro bus shortly after the collision.
“Somebody knows who this person is,” said Jim Fuda, Director of Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound. “It could be a friend, a relative, or even a witness from the public. We urge them to come forward.”
Despite receiving several tips, police have not yet located the suspect. Crime Stoppers confirmed the information received has been passed on to investigators as potential leads.
As her family navigates the painful aftermath, Chen issued a message to the motorcyclist: “You didn’t just hit two people — you took away a mother, a wife, a friend. Someone who meant the world to so many. Leaving the scene was a choice, but you can still choose to do the right thing now and come forward.”
