Seattle has become the first city to launch Lime’s new LimeGlider seated scooters, introducing 3,000 units to its streets. This rollout follows a successful pilot program and aims to enhance accessibility in urban transportation.

What Is the LimeGlider?

The LimeGlider is a seated electric scooter designed for comfort and ease of use. Key features include:

  • Lower Center of Gravity: Provides increased stability, especially beneficial for new riders.
  • Step-Through Frame: Allows for easy mounting and dismounting, accommodating a wider range of riders.
  • Thumb Throttle: Eliminates the need for pedaling or pushing off, offering an effortless ride.

These design elements make the LimeGlider particularly appealing to individuals who may find traditional scooters or bikes challenging to use.

Seattle’s Micromobility Landscape

Seattle ranks as Lime’s fourth-largest market globally, following London, Paris, and Berlin. In 2024, residents took over 6 million rides on Lime vehicles, with 2 million rides already recorded in the first quarter of 2025—a 113% increase from the same period in 2024.

The city’s diverse terrain, including hills and varying weather conditions, makes it an ideal testing ground for new micromobility solutions. Seattle’s commitment to sustainable transportation is evident in its support for such initiatives.

Safety and Accessibility

While the introduction of new vehicles like the LimeGlider promotes inclusivity, safety remains a priority. Injuries involving electric scooters and bikes increased by 37% in 2024 compared to 2023. To address this, Seattle offers free helmets at six Customer Service Centers and two local businesses.

Lime reports that over 99% of rides in Seattle concluded without incident, and the company continues to implement safety features and educational campaigns to maintain rider well-being.
