The Seattle Mariners All-Star Legacy Field at Lower Woodland Playfield will close for construction beginning 23 June, with the project expected to run through August 2026 as Seattle Parks and Recreation replaces the synthetic turf that has been in place since 2013.
The entire field at 5100 Green Lake Way N will be closed for the duration of construction. The project involves removing the existing turf, addressing any necessary structural repairs to curbing and subsurface areas, and installing a new synthetic turf system over a supplemental resilient pad with granular cork and sand infill. New turf will also be installed in the bullpens as part of the scope of work.
The field has completed its design phase, with D.A. Hogan serving as the design consultant and Field Turf USA as the project contractor. Seattle Parks and Recreation said it will work with the contractor to minimize disruption to nearby roadways and the surrounding neighborhood during construction.
The closure comes as Seattle Public Schools and Seattle Parks and Recreation continue broader discussions about future athletic field projects in Woodland Park, including plans for a new athletic field serving Lincoln High School. Community feedback on potential field locations within the park was gathered earlier this spring.
