Hotel employees have been on strike since June 18. The strike marks the longest hotel walkout in Washington State history. The key points of contention include wage increases, year-round health care coverage and pre-pandemic staffing levels. Additionally, the workers requested mandatory notifications when federal immigration agents enter the premises, a request that management had previously rejected.

Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson and King County Executive Girmay Zahilay appeared on the picket line at the Pioneer Square Embassy Suites on Labour Day in an attempt to acknowledge the struggles of working people.

The labor dispute has also received widespread support from other community labor groups, with about 100 people joining the Embassy Suites picket line.

July 21, 2026, has been declared Hotel Worker Day by the Seattle City Council.
