A tragic case of alleged child abuse has gripped the Seattle community after authorities charged a mother and her partner in the death of her 14-year-old son, who was reportedly beaten to death with an extension cord after failing to complete his chores

According to charging documents, Denaya Young, 29, is accused of forcing her son, Jemiere Da’metrius James Robinson, to strip naked before beating him with an extension cord for three to four hours. Young later admitted to authorities she “lost count” of how many times she hit him.

An autopsy revealed Robinson suffered more than 1,100 injuries, including 74 to his face and head. The King County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be Sudden Inflammatory Response Syndrome—a fatal physiological reaction resulting from extensive trauma.

Young’s partner, Khailil Graham, 27, was present during the prolonged assault but reportedly made no effort to stop it. When questioned by police, he allegedly stated, “In these situations, my best bet is to mind my own business.” Graham has been charged with second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter.

Both suspects are currently being held in the King County Jail, with Young’s bail set at $3 million.
