A Seattle woman is facing murder charges following prosecutors alleged she intentionally drowned her 2-year-old son in a bathtub shortly after sending threatening messages to the child’s father during a custody dispute. Court documents state the incident occurred at the family’s apartment, where first responders discovered the toddler unresponsive despite efforts to save him.

Investigators allege the mother sent text messages indicating she intended to harm the child before the incident. According to charging documents, she later called 911 to report that her son was not breathing. The child was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Prosecutors say the evidence gathered during the investigation led detectives to conclude the drowning was intentional.

Authorities said the case followed an extensive investigation involving interviews, forensic evidence and a review of communications between the child’s parents. Prosecutors argue the alleged threats, coupled with the circumstances surrounding the child’s death, support the murder charge filed against the woman.

The suspect remains in custody as the case moves through the court system. The tragedy has drawn renewed attention to the impact of domestic disputes involving young children, while the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the toddler’s death remains ongoing.
