A Seattle Police Department patrol car was heavily damaged in a collision early Friday morning at 5th Avenue and Seneca Street, temporarily closing the busy downtown intersection.
The crash occurred shortly after sunrise in the central business district. The police cruiser sustained a crumpled front end with deployed airbags, and a utility pole was struck during the incident. A second vehicle at the scene also showed damage, though its role in the collision remains unclear.
Seattle police have not released information about injuries to officers or other drivers involved. Officials have not disclosed whether the patrol car was responding to an emergency call or conducting routine patrol when the crash occurred.
Tow trucks removed the damaged police vehicle from the intersection while city crews worked to restore traffic flow. The intersection was briefly closed but has since reopened to normal traffic.
The 5th and Seneca intersection is one of downtown’s busiest corridors, especially during morning commute hours. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Seattle police.
