A 35-year-old woman now facing a murder charge in Seattle’s SODO neighborhood was previously convicted for a triple-fatal car crash nearly 15 years ago, reigniting pain for the victims’ families.

Jordyn Weichert is currently being held on $5 million bail following the fatal stabbing of 55-year-old Ramon Aragon-Garcia on July 14. She has been formally charged with second-degree murder, and if convicted, she could be sentenced to life in prison.

Weichert’s criminal record dates back to 2011, when she was convicted of vehicular homicide after a deadly crash in Oak Harbor, Island County. Investigators at the time said she lost control of her car on Highway 20 and collided with an oncoming vehicle, resulting in the deaths of two of her passengers. The other victim, Brian Wood, a Vancouver, B.C. resident and soon-to-be father, was behind the wheel of the other vehicle and died at the scene. His pregnant wife, Erin, who was sitting beside him, survived.

Police at the time reported finding a range of substances and a firearm inside Weichert’s vehicle, including heroin, cocaine, marijuana, and a gun.

Nearly 15 years later, news of Weichert’s recent arrest has devastated the families still healing from the 2010 crash. Erin Wood, who lost her husband in that collision and later gave birth to their daughter, responded to the latest incident by expressing both heartbreak and disappointment. She stated that it had been her hope that Weichert had used her time in prison to change. However, the news that more lives have now been impacted by Weichert’s actions is deeply saddening to her.

Wood also reflected on how her life was irrevocably changed the day of the crash, saying she still fiercely misses her late husband and wishes he could have been there to raise their daughter. In light of the recent charges, she also voiced concern about how the justice system addresses both victim support and offender rehabilitation.

As of now, Weichert remains in custody, awaiting her next court appearance.
