Catchball, one of the fastest-growing sports in the United States, is gaining significant traction in Seattle as the DreamCatchers have established themselves as a powerhouse in the Pacific Northwest with six USA Nationals first-place victories and a reputation for excellence that extends across the region.

The game is a variation of volleyball and is becoming increasingly popular, following a growth trajectory similar to pickleball’s explosive rise a few years ago. Catchball is positioning itself for potential inclusion in future Olympic Games, which could accelerate its expansion across North America and internationally. The DreamCatchers, based in Seattle, have grown into one of the Pacific Northwest’s premier women’s Catchball teams competing in the SeattleNet League.

Since the team’s founding in 2019, the DreamCatchers have compiled an impressive record of first-place victories across multiple competitions. The team’s success extends beyond wins on the court. In 2025, the DreamCatchers received the Best Teamwork Award from the USA Catchball Association, recognizing their collaborative approach and cohesion as a unit. The honor reflects the culture the team has built over six years of competition.

The DreamCatchers’ dominance at the national level stands out particularly. The team has claimed six USA Nationals first-place titles, competing against teams from across the United States and Canada. That consistency at the highest level of competition has established Seattle as a major center for the sport and positioned the DreamCatchers as one of the most successful programs in North American Catchball.

The team’s success highlights how Seattle has become a hub for emerging sports as athletes seek alternatives to traditional team athletics. Catchball’s growth mirrors the explosive popularity of pickleball, which transformed from a niche backyard activity into a mainstream sport with professional leagues and dedicated facilities over the past decade. As Catchball follows a similar path, Seattle teams like the DreamCatchers are positioned to lead the sport’s development.

The sport’s potential inclusion in future Olympic Games could bring additional resources, media attention, and competitive opportunities to teams like the DreamCatchers. Olympic recognition often serves as a catalyst for sports to reach new audiences and attract funding that helps programs grow. For Seattle’s Catchball community, the DreamCatchers’ success provides a foundation to build on as the sport continues expanding regionally and nationally.
