Health tech startup Vital Signals has introduced the Signal Ring, a $399 wearable designed to measure blood pressure without the need for a traditional arm cuff. The company says the device delivers cuff-level accuracy using proprietary algorithms, eliminating the calibration required by similar products from Samsung and Whoop.
Preorders are open, with shipments expected to begin in October.
The company was founded by CEO Tom Moss after his own near-fatal experience with undiagnosed high blood pressure. Unlike fitness-focused smart rings, the Signal Ring is specifically aimed at people with hypertension or those at risk of developing the condition. It also does not require a monthly subscription.
A medical-grade version capable of diagnosing hypertension is currently undergoing clinical trials, although it has not yet received FDA clearance. The ring stores readings offline when disconnected but requires an internet connection to process data, and its battery lasts about four days. Developers say the technology could eventually be adapted for other wearable devices, including earbuds and smart glasses.
