The Seattle Storm ended an 11-game losing streak on Thursday night with a 99-88 victory over the New York Liberty, powered by Flau’jae Johnson’s career-high 28 points and a historic performance from Dominique Malonga, who became the youngest player in WNBA history to reach 500 career points.

Johnson, a 22-year-old rookie, led all scorers with 11-for-23 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds in what was the best individual performance of her young professional career. Malonga contributed 20 points and 10 rebounds for her second consecutive double-double, also setting a league record as the youngest player ever to reach 200 career defensive rebounds.

Seattle jumped out to a 48-40 lead at the half and extended it to 16 points in the fourth quarter before New York rallied to cut the deficit to eight with three minutes remaining. Malonga scored six of the Storm’s final 10 points to help close the door. Jade Melbourne added 18 points, Awa Fam contributed 15, and Natisha Hiedeman, who surpassed 2,000 career points during the game, finished with 11.

Jonquel Jones led New York with 26 points, Leonie Fiebich added 19, and Sabrina Ionescu finished with 14 points and five assists for the Liberty, who fall to 12-7 on the season.

The win is Seattle’s first since 24 May, snapping the longest losing stretch of the Storm’s season. The Storm, now 4-15, host the Atlanta Dream on Saturday.
