A suspected drunk driver rear-ended a line of stopped vehicles on southbound Interstate 405 in Bellevue late Tuesday night, setting off a chain-reaction crash involving six vehicles that injured three people and blocked the freeway for approximately four hours.

The Washington State Patrol said the collision was reported at 10:16 p.m. near milepost 10.2 at the ramp to Coal Creek Parkway. According to the report, vehicles two through six were stopped in the left lane when the driver of the first vehicle failed to decelerate and struck the rear of the second vehicle, triggering a series of collisions down the line. The first vehicle came to rest in the left lane while the remaining five vehicles ended up on the right shoulder.

Three people were taken to hospital with injuries. The driver of the first vehicle was arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular assault. WSP listed DUI as the cause of the crash.
