A suspected impaired driver was taken into custody Sunday evening after causing two crashes in Renton, one of which left a victim in critical condition.

According to the Renton Police Department, the incident began shortly after 6 p.m. when the driver collided with another vehicle at 140th Way Southeast and Maple Valley Highway. Police said the suspect fled that scene before crashing head-on into another vehicle at 154th Place Southeast and Maple Valley Highway.

The victim in the second crash was critically injured, police reported, while the suspect sustained only minor injuries. Authorities added that at least four vehicles were involved across the two collisions.

As of 8 p.m., Renton Fire Department crews were still on site treating victims, though the total number of people injured has not yet been confirmed. The suspect remains in custody as the investigation continues.
